FAQ’s
What is a Blog Whammy?
A Blog Whammy aims to increase the traffic, comments and links to your blog and in turn increases the popularity of your blog. One blog is chosen each week to whammy!
As a member, how do I participate?
Each Sunday a blog from our members is listed on this blog for the following weeks Whammy.
Step 1: During the week of the Whammy (which runs Monday to Friday) you go to the target blog and find a post that you can relate to on your blog. You will need to find a post that your own blog readers will be interested in, so be sure that the post fits your niche in some way.
Step 2: While visiting the blog being whammy’d, leave a comment on at least one of their blog posts. Having comments means that people are actually reading your blog, which in turn will ideally get other people to comment.
Step 3: Write a blog post, making a reference to and linking to the particular blog post that you have chosen from the current target blog.
If you can’t find a post that is relevant to your blog be sure that you have checked the blog out properly, in most cases relevancy will not be an issue, you will surely find at least one post that will be of some relevance to your readers. An alternative is to write about the blog or business in a general sense rather than a particular post.
If, after you have exhausted all avenues, you still can’t find any relevance then you can sit the round out and not participate. However, this should not be a common thing.
Step 4: Let us know that you have participated in the current Blog Whammy round, once you have written your post (with a link back) the target blog.
To do this, you come back here to the Blog Whammy site, find the post that details the target blog you whammy’d and leave a comment with the following details:
My Name:
My Blog:
My Blog Post:
How will I know in advance who’s blogs are being whammy’d?
At the end of each month members are sent a newsletter offering blogging tips and listing the blogs that will be whammy’d for the coming month. The blogs are whammy’d based on the order of our members listed on Our Members page.
Each Sunday the blog being whammy’d is listed on this site and a reminder email is sent.
If a blog owner does not feel that they are ready to be whammy’d please advise me as soon as possible and we can reschedule for a later date.
How do I become a member of the Blog Whammy group?
Details on becoming a member can be found on the Become a Member page.
What do I have to do when my blog is being whammy’d?
You need to be able to moderate all the posts made on your blog and to answer any queries that the members may have about your blog, as well as continue to blog for the week.
It is encouraged that you note down your statistics such as the past month’s unique visitors, your Technorati ranking prior to the week of the Blog Whammy. Once your whammy is completed, feel free to post a comment here telling us how the whammy has affected your traffic and your Technorati ranking.
What is Technorati?
Techorati is a blog directory and it provides you with statistics such as a ranking within Technorati and the number of blog that link to your blog. You will receive more information on Technorati when you join.
How are the blogs chosen for each whammy?
We are currently rotating through each of our member’s blogs, ensuring that all members have a fair go at receiving a whammy for their blog. To be fair with the rotation system, all new members are put at the bottom of the list and will be included as part of the rotation.
To ensure your blog is whammy’d, please read the prerequisites listed on the Become a Member page.
Why should I join the Blog Whammy group?
This is all about ‘paying it forward’ (hope you’ve seen the movie) and supporting other women who have an online business and a business blog.
Your blog should see an increase in traffic, technorati rank, comments, search engine rankings and subscribers. Plus it will help to increase your expert status and credibility in your field.
It is a great way to get to know other work women in a similar situation as you, and you get to network with them via the blogging community.
Is there a fee involved to particpate?
Nope, nadda, zip… It’s completely free! We do ask that you show us some ‘link love’ and help spread the word to other online business women about the Blog Whammy program.
What happens if I don’t particpate in the whammy’s for a period of time?
If you have notified me advising that you are unable to particpate for a certain period of time then nothing. We will wait for your return.
However if after 4 rounds of Blog Whammy you have not participated and have not notified me in regards to your non participation, your blog will be removed from the Whammy Blogroll.
If you have any other questions, please email me at nicole @ moderngoddessonline.com (remember to take out the spaces).
Happy Blogging!
